NOAH's position on storage liability
NOAH considers it unacceptable that future generations as a consequence of current transactions are forced to inherit a problem that involves human security, financial expenses and potential environmental damage.
We know for a fact that stores will require surveillance over a very long period of time.
In this sense the CO2-storage issue resembles the issue of security for the storage of radioactive waste from nuclear power plants. It requires a societal stability that has no historical precedence.
NOAH finds it utterly unreasonable that store operators can escape responsibility for storage facilities immediately after the store's final seal, which is what the EU has proposed in its CCS directive as a part of the EU Energy and Climate package from 2008.
